Distinguished Lecturers Program PDF Print E-mail

General Information

The IEEE Distinguished Lecturers Program is one of the most exciting offerings available to the IEEE Society Chapters. The Program is intended to serve as a convenient resource, especially for Sections and Chapters, to assist them in planning high quality programs for their membership.

Distinguished Lecturer Programs operate according to procedures defined by the sponsoring Society or Council. Some programs are available to any IEEE entity (Chapter, Section, Student Branch), as well as to non-IEEE entities (e.g., universities), while others are restricted to use only by the Chapters of the sponsoring Society. Some Societies provide full or partial financial support for speaker travel expenses. In some cases this support is limited only to the Chapters of the sponsoring Society, in other cases there are no restrictions.

IES Distinguished Lecturers Program Policy

Program is open to Industrial Electronics Society (IES) Chapters only. To request a speaker contact her or him directly. Subsidies are not provided by Society automatically, request can be made to Coordinator.

The Policy Summary

  • The DLP Committee consists of the four past Presidents and the Chairman:
  • Each year the Committee select a limited number of Distinguished Lecturers (DL) for a term of limited time. An IES Distinguished Lecture must be an IEEE Fellow and an IES Member.
  • IES allocated $10,000 each year to support the travel expenses of DLs. The support is given only to the selected DLs of that year. The maximum amount of support per DL, per year, is not set. The ceiling concept was lifted on the DL program. DLs should travel in the most economical manner. Other expenses have to be covered from other sources.
  • The travel support include only plane fare and/or train fare. the local institution will take care of lodging, meals, and other local expenses.
  • As the DLs are supported by IES financially and in moral sense they should prepare a short material on the activities of IES (Conferences, Transactions, Magazine, Homepage, etc) and present it at the beginning of their lecture.
  • The official financial report with invoices have to be sent to our treasurer (Terry Martin) again within one month after the DL visit. Failing to comply with the one-month deadline might result in loosing the travel support.
