2017 IEEE Medal in Power Engineering goes to Prof. Kazmierkowski

IES is proud to announce that the IEEE Board of Directors selected Professor Marian Kazmierkowski to receive the 2017 IEEE Medal in Power Engineering.

The award comes with the following citation:

"For leadership in and pioneering contributions to the development of power electronic converters and electric drive control systems."

IES  congratulates its longtime member Professor Marian Kazmierkowski for his outstanding contributions to the engineering and technology in the area of generation, transmission, distribution, application, and utilization of electric power for the betterment of society.

This year we did it for the very first time in the history of our society and then we did it again!
IEEE approved the standard 61158-2017

The IES has its second standard approved by IEEE. On May 18, 2017, IEEE approved P61158 Standard for Industrial Hard Real-Time Communication. Dietmar Bruckner is the secretary of the IES Standards Committee and the chair of the Work Group that harbored the development of P61158. Victor Huang and C.J. "Allen" Chen are the chair and vice-chair of the IES Standards committee. Get involved with IES Standards...

Scope of the Standard: The Standard for Industrial Hard Real-Time Communication is an adoption of the EPSG DS 301—Ethernet POWERLINK—Communication Profile Specification. Ethernet POWERLINK is a communication profile for Real-Time Ethernet (RTE). It extends Ethernet according to the IEEE Std 802.3 with mechanisms to transfer data with predictable timing and precise synchronization. The communication profile meets timing demands typical for high performance automation and motion applications. It does not change the basic principles of the Fast Ethernet Standard IEEE 802.3 but extends it towards RTE. Thus it is possible to leverage and continue to use any standard Ethernet silicon, infrastructure component or test and measurement equipment like a network analyzer.

IES First IEEE Standard: IEEE 21451-001-2017

The IES has its first standard approved by IEEE. On March 23, 2017, IEEE approved P21451-0001 Recommended Practice for Signal Treatment Applied to Smart Transducers. Congratulations to Prof. Gustavo Monte for all the hard work to bring to IES its FIRST Standard! Get involved with IES Standards...

Scope of the Standard: This recommended practice defines signal processing algorithms and data structure in order to share and to infer signal and state information of an instrumentation or control system. These algorithms are based on their own signal and also on the transducers attached to the system. The recommended practice also defines the commands and replies for requesting information and algorithms for shape analysis such as exponential, sinusoidal, impulsive noise, noise, and tendency.
