IES encourages the formation of new Chapters provided there is a minimum of 12 active IES members volunteering to devote their time for the chapter’s activities and have interest in any of the IES technical fields.

Petitions for IEEE Society and Technical Council Chapters and Joint Chapters can be submitted online after the proposed Chapter formation has been agreed to by the Section Chair and IES Vice President.  Please contact IES Vice President for Membership Activities directly to work together in the formation.

Once the work plan has been agreed, the Section Chair will be contacted an an online process for collecting signatures will be open.

Chapters are permanent sub-groups organized on a geographical basis consisting of IES members residing in the same or in neighboring Sections. The purpose of Chapters is to provide members with local activities that further the mission of IES.

 

 

 

IEEE IES Best Student Chapter Award

Established in: 2021
Description: To recognize the activities of the Industrial Electronics Society Student Branch Chapter (IES SBC). Through this, the most active IES SBC is selected and is given the opportunity to nominate one or more active student(s) to receive travel support for participating in one of the major conferences of the Industrial Electronics Society (IES): either the IEEE Industrial Electronics Conference (IECON) or the IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE).

Eligibility: Any IES SBC. Any IES SBC cannot receive more than one award in three years.
Prize: A certificate for the IES SBC, and travel support to attend the conference: IECON or ISIE. The travel support is in the form of reimbursement up to but not more than US$2,000. If multiple recipients, it is shared among them. The conference fee is waived for each recipient(s).

Presentation: At IECON or ISIE.

The IES Best Chapter Award intends to recognize and appreciate IES chapter(s) that has/have demonstrated an outstanding performance in organized technical activities relevant to IES fields of interest, and contributions to IES membership development in a particular calendar year.

 

Eligibility: Only IES chapters, individual or joint, of which the Chapter Chairs are members of IES during the award period.

Prize: US$1,000 and certificate, plus reimbursement for IES-approved travel expenses by one chapter representative to receive the award, up to but not more than US$3,000. Also provided is membership-drive support up to but not more than US$1,000. In the case of multiple Chapters being awarded, the prize and travel reimbursements are to be shared.

Presentation: At the IECON conference in the subsequent year.

Description

This program is intended the local activities carried by Chapters worldwide and releases an annual call. Chapters can obtain up to $4000, subject to availibility of funds, to objectives, and to actual expenses. SCLA provides financial support to Chapters and Joint Chapters to organize local activities or events that provide value to members and potential members. All the activities must align with IES mission and fields of interest 

Chapters interested in applying must submit the form below. Note that support will be given only for events that have one or more of the following objectives:

  • Member retention and satisfaction
  • Providing technical and professional services to local members interested in the fields of interest of the Society
  • Contributing to position IES as the professional home of those working in any of the technologies covered by the Society
  • Bringing IES closer to students and Young Professionals
  • Increasing diversity and inclusion in all activities
  • Community service or training

Examples of events are workshops, industrial visits, seminars, meetups, Senior Member elevation parties, etc.

Requirements

It is required that the event includes increasing Chapter membership by recruiting new professional members. Cooperation with other IES groups (WIE, Students, Technical Committees, Publications, etc.) is greatly encouraged.

Other requirements:

  1. SCLA maximum grant maximum is USD 4000 per Chapter, always subject to actual expenses and to the total budget limit.
  2. Each Chapter can only apply once per year.
  3. Different Chapters may apply jointly for a collaborative activity. In this case, if the impact is ranked high, the maximum grant may be more than USD 4000 per joint chapter collaboration. The final approved SCLA budget will be subject to the decision from IES

The Chapter must provide a report within 7 days after the event has been completed. The report should include a description and evidence of the event, the value created, the impact to the community, the number or potential number of new IES members, etc. Submit report to vp-membership@ieee-ies.org and kftsang@ieee.org
